Loving People
During this first week at Epic, a couch discussion took place where six young adults shared their raw, uncensored thoughts regarding the negative effects that the church and Christians have had on the gospel. Much was shared about how in many ways we have been bad misrepresentations of Christ to the world. You heard from them. Now it’s your turn. Let us know what you think. Let’s keep the conversation going!
Here are a few questions to ponder. Feel free to answer one or all.
- What are your views on the comment made about going drinking andpartying in order to witness to unsaved friends?
- How can one be accepting and loving, and at the same time beforthecoming about the fact that people are separated from God and inneed of a Savior?
- How do we accept a homosexual person without condoning the lifestyle?

God loves people (John 3:16) and hates sin (Zechariah 8:17). We should be the same. In order to do this, we have to be willing and able to make a clear distinction between the person and the action.
When we do this, we show genuine compassion for people stuggling with sin. We do not accept sin, or ignore it. We rightly condemn it, but never the person.
All Christians should realize that God has accepted them because of His Mercy and Grace, even though they still struggle with sin. What if God rejected them because of their sin instead of showing mercy and grace?
Christians should be ten times more accepting because of the acceptance showed to them by God.
I personally don't believe that the drinking and party scene is a place we need to put ourselves in order to witness to unsaved friends. If the opportunity arose at a party to speak to someone about Christ then by all means talk; but if the comment is suggesting that we need to be at parties and drinking in order to witness to friends I think that is a risky place to be as Christian. We shouldn’t give others any extra ammunition to condemn us with … they could always turn around and say: What kind of a Christian lifestyle are you exuding when I saw you at the party drinking too? I would wait for better timing if I was seriously planning to reach out to a friend about Christ.
